Be kinder to yourself in 2018

One of the things that I hear from my clients again and again is that they want to approach life differently this year, that they are tired of being tired, anxious, stressed and unable to switch off.

My approach to restorative yoga is to start with mobilisation using somatic movements, this helps to free up tightly held tension in the body, we then move into deep holds fully supported by props, breath work and we end with yoga nidra. If you haven’t yet tried it, do!  It trains your brain and body to understand what letting go feels like, in an age of being constantly wired and tired, self care is a revolutionary act.

Restorative yoga is an excellent opportunity to disconnect from being switched ON 24/7. It helps to prepare the body and mind for deeper awareness and mindfulness. It is training for better sleep and a calmer you.

The focus on breath and staying in the poses activates the parasympathetic nervous system, this is the part of your nervous system that is responsible for rest, digest and healing processes. Long term ongoing stress can lead to sleep disorders, depression, heart disease, anxiety, digestive problems and weight gain. A regular restorative practice helps to alleviate the stresses put on the body through the fear-and-flight response.

Sharpens your focus
Lack of focus is one of the biggest problems that businesses face, because we simply all have too much information to process. A regular Restorative yoga practice helps to rest the brain and body, allowing you to make decisions from a more calmer and rested place.
